She imagined he tasted like peppermint tea. Although he probably tasted more like salt and stale smoke. She wanted his fingers to run through her hair; that she never usually liked to have touched. She admired his short bitten fingernails. They were worn and had dirt under them. Sometimes she would dream of him. The dreams often left her in a sweat. She’d awake to peel of her damp clothes, then struggle to fall back asleep, back into that dream. Though she enjoyed the quite alone she had built for herself, she begged silently for him to climb through her bedroom window and make everything loud. She wanted to gasp for air and have her body collapse onto his bare chest. She wanted to hear him say something soft and lovely in her ear. She would respond loudly with graciousness. He’d make them cups of peppermint tea with honey…and for a moment or two; he’d taste like how she imagined. Everything would be wonderfully loud and peppermint.
